Abstract
Introduction: In recent years, even with the extensive and advanced resources available in dentistry, patient dissatisfaction and complaints have been increasing. Given that the majority of these complaints lead to criminal and legal prosecution of dentists, this study aimed to evaluate the frequency and causes of dental malpractice complaints filed with the Medical Council Organization of Kermanshah from 2020 to 2023.
Materials and Methods:In this descriptive-analytical study, we assessed complaints against dentists during 2020-2023 in Kermanshah. The statistical significance in this study was established at P < 0.05.
Results: In this study, 109 files of lawsuits against dentists were examined. According to the results obtained, the majority of complaints were against male dentists (P = 0.75). Over fifty percent of the individuals who filed complaints were female. Most complaints were related to the treatment of dentists with less than 10 years of experience (P = 0.75). The most frequent types of dental issues were associated with prostheses and implants, endodontics, restorative dentistry, tooth extraction, orthodontics, and surgery.
Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of improving practical skills, communicating effectively with patients, and continuing education in treatment management and professional ethics, especially for dentists with less experience.
