Abstract
Introduction: Given the importance of oral hygiene in preschoolers this study was conducted to study selection and usage of toothpaste pattern among 3-5 years old children in Yazd, Iran.
Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study 200 children in range of 3-5 years old who brushed at least twice a week through interviews with their mothers and completing the questionnaire pattern of selection and toothpaste usage were examined for their children. Data were analyzed by SPSS software and Chi-square and t-tests and ANOVA analysis. The significant level of 05/0 = а was considered.
Results: Of the 200 children studied about 177 (%88/5) brushing teeth was done by the children themselves. The amount of toothpaste used for every brushing 76 people (%38) as much as a quarter of the brush, in 100 cases (%50) as much as half the size and in 24 cases (%12) it was the size of the size of the contact area.
Conclusion: The high prevalence of brushing by child can not be regarded positive finding in this age rang. Since tooth brushing is very important in children under 6years it is necessary to raise the level of awareness of parents about the pattern of just brushing using toothpaste more efforts paid.
