Abstract
Introduction: According to the literature review, until now around the world scattered studies have discussed the frequency of types of lymphoma. Due to the lack of information on this subject in Iran, especially in Isfahan, the aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of different types of head and neck lymphoma at Seyed-al-Shohada Hospital, during 2008-2018.
Materials and methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, in 2019, patients’ files with lymphoma, which prevailed in the Seyed-al-Shohada Hospital, were evaluated. Some information such as type of lymphoma, age, sex, location and stage of disease was extracted from the patients’ files. Finally, data was evaluated by T-test and chi-squared test at significant level of 0.05.
Results: The frequency of Hodgkin lymphoma (HD) was higher (65.5%) than non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) (34.5%). The average age that HD patients have been diagnosed was 30.5 years old, and NHL patients were 50.4 years old. The most common subtype among HD was Nodular Sclerosis (52.21%), and NHL was Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) (16.8%). The male gender was superior in lymphoma (1.4 M/F ratio), p-value <0.001.
Conclusion: In general, HL and NHL appear in 30.5 and 50.4 years old, respectively, on average and appears more frequently in males. The most common diagnosed stage was stage two. The most commonly region involved was cervical lymph nodes plus other lymph nodes.
