Abstract

Introduction: In the ideal root canal treatment, we need a suitable irrigator to clean the inaccessible areas inside the canal. Common channel cleaners are sodium hypochlorite solution and 2% chlorhexidine. These chemicals have cytotoxicity and unpleasant smell and taste. The use of natural substances such as hyssop and propolis can be considered as an alternative to these substances without side effects. The purpose of this invitro study was to evaluate the antibacterial effect of sodium hypochlorite solution, chlorhexidine solution, propolis extract and hyssopus officinalis plant on E.fecalis bacteria
Materials and Methods: In this experimental laboratory study, 120 mandibular premolar tooth samples were used to evaluate the antibacterial effect of 4 substances: sodium hypochlorite solution, chlorhexidine solution, propolis extract and hyssop plant on E.fecalis bacteria. After preparing the samples, there were 6 groups of 20 including the evaluated materials and the fifth group of sterile water as the control group. In all the samples, E.faecalis bacteria were cultured and after washing with each of the studied groups, the results were evaluated by CFU method.
Result: The results of the study were statistically analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test and the mann whitny post hoc test. This test showed that there is a significant difference between the 5 research groups. (p.v < 0.001)
Conclusion: In this study, hypochlorite, hyssop, chlorhexidine, propolis and sterile water respectively had the most antibacterial effect.
