Background: Diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders Various oral health problems such as gingivitis, periodontitis and tooth decay are related to diabetes. One of the sub-branches of the quality of life related to health is the quality of life related to oral health, which is a multidimensional concept. The aim of this study was to investigate the oral health status and oral health-related quality of life in people with type 2 diabetes in Isfahan.
Materials and Methods: This analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted on 110 type 2 diabetic patients with good control who referred to the Social Security Clinic of Rahanan Branch of Isfahan using a convenient sampling method. General information of the participants including age, gender, education level, and duration of diabetes diagnosis was recorded. Then, the Persian version of the Fox et al. dry mouth questionnaire (including 9 questions) and the OHIP-14 questionnaire (including 14 questions) were completed by the patients. Subsequently, the patients were clinically examined for oral mucosal and dental health (DMFT Decay, Missing, Filling Index) and periodontal status indices including CPI Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and CAL (Clinical Attachment Loss).
Results:The result of this study on the relationship between quality of life and demographic variables indicates that education has a significant correlation with quality of life.Additionally ,a direct correlation was observed between the quality of life score and the DMFT and CPI indices
Conclusion:variables such as patient age,education, DMFT index, and CPI index have demonstrated predictive roles for quality of life.
