Introduction: Lipoma is a benign lesion consist of mature adipocytes. Only 1-4% of these lesions are seen in oral cavity and most of them are in parotid gland, buccal mucosa, labial mucosa and tongue.
Although lipoma is one of the most common neoplasms in soft tissue, intraosseous lesions are very rare and include only 0.1% of bone lesions. Most central cases are reported in lower long bones.
A few cases have been reported in the jaws, symphysis, body and ramus of mandible are the most common sites in the literature. This lesion is usually benign, slow growing and asymptomatic. Diagnosis is based on histopathologic features and the treatment of choice is surgical excision.
Conclusion: Etiology of this lesion is unclear due to few reported cases and shows the importance of publishing new case reports from this intraosseous lesion.
In this report, the clinical features, radiographic appearance, and histopathology of a 71-year-old unemployed man with a diagnosis of intraosseous lipoma in a rare location are described.
