English
Introduction: Since the first permanent molars are the first teeth to go into the mouth between the ages of 6 and 7 and have a long period of eruption, they are the most susceptible tooth to decay. This tooth does not replace any of the deciduous teeth and is considered a deciduous tooth by the parents. On. In the present study, parents' knowledge about the eruption of children's first permanent molar and its effect on the health of this tooth was evaluated.
Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Mobarakeh in1399,involving 204 children aged 8-9 years selected through multi-stage stratified-cluster sampling, along with their parents. Parents completed a questionnaire assessing their knowledge of first permanent molar eruption timing, general oral health, and caries-prevention practices. A trained dental student then clinically examined the children's first permanent molars to determine the DMFT index. Statistical analysis employed a one-sample t-test, an independent t-test, and Spearman's correlation coefficient.
Results:The mean DMFTindex was 1.56.A significant inverse relationship was found between parental knowledge of molar eruption timing and DMFT scores (p<0.001). Significant associations were also observed between DMFTand parents' general oral health knowledge (p<0.001), their knowledge of caries-prevention methods (p<0.001)
Conclusion:Parental awareness of first permanent molar eruption timing, along with maternal education level, were identified as significant factors influencing caries status in these teeth. The findings highlight the need for educational programs to improve parental knowledge regarding the eruption timing of children's first permanent molars, in order to support better preventive outcomes
