Abstract
Introduction: Patients’ perception and satisfaction with their dental appearance are influenced by various demographic, social, and economic factors, which should be considered in treatment strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the level of perception and satisfaction with dental appearance and its association with demographic variables among patients attending restorative and orthodontic departments.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional analytical study, a researcher-designed questionnaire regarding perception and satisfaction with dental appearance was developed, standardized, and distributed both online and in print to 190 patients attending the restorative and orthodontic departments of the Islamic Azad University, Isfahan Dental School in 2021. Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis, Mann–Whitney, Chi-square, and Fisher’s exact tests (α = 0.05).
Results: Most participants considered the eyes, followed by the teeth, as the most attractive facial features, while the position of the teeth was regarded as the most important factor in a smile. No significant association was found between perception of dental appearance and gender, occupation, age, or educational level (P > 0.05). More than half of the participants reported moderate satisfaction with their dental appearance. Similarly, satisfaction levels were not significantly related to gender, age, marital status, education, or occupation (P > 0.05).
Conclusion: The majority of individuals expressed a moderate level of satisfaction with their dental appearance, which was largely influenced by personal preferences and individual perception of beauty.
